Mickey Ferrell
Mr. Ferrell is a Founding Partner of the Conventum Group and has nearly 30 years of experience working in and with Elected Officials in Washington, DC and the State of Colorado. Mr. Ferrell served as a senior advisor for three Members of Congress both in the United States Senate and the US House of Representatives with areas of responsibility in: Congressional Appropriations, the US Budget, Defense Authorization and Appropriations, Financial Services Industry, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Government Reform, US Homeland Security, the Judicial Branch, US Tax Code, and US Transportation (Aviation, Surface – highway and transit, Rail, and Water). Mr. Ferrell also served as the federal lobbyist for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) under four different Republican and Democrat Governors in Colorado.
Mr. Ferrell started his professional career with Senator Conrad Burns (MT) in 1998 after graduating from the University of Montana with a Political Science and History Degree. Mr. Ferrell gained valuable first-hand experience learning the inner workings of the US Senate, Senate Offices, as well as the Committee structures. Having worked for Senator Burns for two and a half years, Mr. Ferrell accepted the challenge of becoming the Legislative Director for Representative Rick Hill (MT-ALL). Once again, Mr. Ferrell gained valuable experience this time in the House of Representatives, in how Representatives’ Offices are structured, as well as the Committees of the US House of Representatives. Finally, Mr. Ferrell served as a Senior Staff Member to Rep. Joel Hefley (CO-05) for nearly years.
After leaving Washington D.C. for Colorado, Mr. Ferrell served as the Federal Liaison for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) where he formulated and recommended policy positions for four Republican and Democrat Governors, numerous Executive Directors of CDOT, and the Colorado Transportation Commission. In this role, Mr. Ferrell led multiple state delegation trips to Washington DC on project and federal policy issues. These trips included CDOT’s Executive Directors, Transportation Commissioners, Key Senior Executive Officials and external stakeholder groups. Mr. Ferrell was a key advisor to both internal and external stakeholders on various transportation projects representing billions of dollars of investment across the State of Colorado through multiple federal transportation authorization bills. Mr. Ferrell represented CDOT at AASHTO and WAASHTO including AASHTO’s Reauthorization Committees and Financial Policy Committee.
In 2012, Mr. Ferrell departed the CDOT to start Michael Douglas Ferrell, LLC, a public policy firm based in Parker, Colorado. Michael Douglas Ferrell, LLC was founded on three key principles: experience, value, and results to help his clients establish long-term positive relationships. Mr. Ferrell recognized the model for advocacy had changed at all levels of Government. Gone were the days that ‘good ideas’ or ‘good policy’ could stand on their own and to accomplish results, businesses and governments needed to establish long-term relationships with other elected officials. Mr. Ferrell believes that serving his clients with long-term established relationships at multiple levels of government leads to exceptional client value with positive results.
